2007 southland orchid show
This year’s Southland Orchid Show at the Huntington Library, Art
Collections, and Botanical Gardens was held on October 19-21, and featured
beautiful displays by local orchid societies and vendors from around the
world. The theme of the show was “Orchidelic” and, as usual, OSSC
participated, offering a display based upon a classic 1968 “psychedelic” song by
Cream entitled “White Room.” An open-walled "room" contained over 100
blooming orchids set displayed on pure white tables, chairs, benches, and
bookcases. The lustrous black curtains were inspired by the first line
in the song "In a white room, with black curtains, in the station...". True
to the theme, "White Room" played in the background while
"psychedelic" graphics, synchronized with the music, were projected onto the

For its display, OSSC was awarded the Silver Medal for displays larger
than 50 square feet. OSSC members were awarded the following ribbons and

The concept for the display came from the OSSC Show Committee,

Construction of the display started several weeks before
the show, overseen as usual by Alberto Ossa, with the
